Robots across Media
Robots have been a common reincarnation across all forms of media. There has always been some form of fascination with the mechanical menaces or servants - depending on the portrayal. Robots can be found in many sci fi films, games and animations. From the likes of the malicious Metal Sonic to that of the depressed robot, Marvin, of A Hitch Hiker's guide to the galaxy, robots have been utilised and portrayed as characters in many ways.
Common colours associated with robots include that of chromatic, silver colours and rusty hues. Some even incorporate blue into their design - although in the case of Mega Man above, this is to align with his heroic side, since he is a protagonist, where as Metal Sonic, a villain robot, is to reflect his doppelgänger nature to Sonic, who is blue.
Perhaps our fascination with robots is akin to our fascination with immortality. Robots are more or less permanent, immortal, they re not organic - and more or less last forever, except for the rusting part. Robots can be fashioned into many things - but most depictions include a humanoid form.
Many of the robots depicted above, sourced from several different genres and platforms, are all stylised in certain ways. Villainous robots are sharp, tall and imposing where as the friendlier robots are flatter, rounder and appear the most human.
The kind of robot i'd like to depict for this martial arts project is that of a simplified, stylised kind of cartoony robot like the likes of Wally or Clank from Ratchet and Clank.
